On Sunday, Prime Minster Jonas Gahr Støre visited the US Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. US Navy submarines play a key role in maintaining security in the High North.

‘The US is Norway’s most important ally, and there is close and wide-ranging defence cooperation between our two countries. This cooperation is essential for Norway’s defence and for the security and defence of the US. Today, we have had constructive discussions about the security situation in Norway’s neighbouring areas and maritime cooperation between Norway and the US. It is vital for our collective security that we have a common understanding of the challenges in our neighbouring areas,’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
