Obama Calls Norway’s New Prime Minister

Business

Category: Government

Obama and Prime Minister Erna Solberg spoke by phone. The White House says Obama congratulated Solberg on becoming prime minister and told her that he looks forward to meeting her in person.

The two leaders discussed security in the Middle East, including support for destroying Syria’s chemical weapons. Global health and both nations’ efforts to combat climate change were also on the agenda.

Solberg’s government took office last week, promising tax cuts and stricter controls on immigration. Solberg’s Conservatives and the right-wing Progress Party ousted a center-left government in last month’s election. The pair will rule as a minority government with the support of center-right parties.
