World Oil: Defining the oilfield service sector’s role in meeting CO₂ goals

FLORENCE, ITALY – As operators worldwide set ambitious net-zero-emissions goals, oilfield service companies have an opportunity to both play a key role in meeting these targets, and take a leadership position in shaping the path of the coming energy transition.

“We are working on many fronts to practically reduce the carbon footprint of oil and gas, and we are learning how to better account for carbon as well,” said Chris Jones, Vice President, Europe Oilfield Services at Baker Hughes. The service company is following the lead of major operators like Repsol in establishing its own zero-emissions goals for the year 2050.

Understanding the full carbon signature of oil and gas operations is key – when there is a thorough understanding of where carbon is released throughout the exploration process, strategies can be implemented to proactively manage those releases.

Press Release: CNO Strengthens Naval Partnership with Norway

WASHINGTON (NNS) — Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike Gilday met with his Norwegian counterpart, Chief of the Royal Norwegian Navy Rear Adm. Nils Andreas Stensønes, at the Pentagon, Feb.18.

During the office call, the leaders discussed their navies’ commitment to regional maritime security in the Arctic and North Atlantic.

“The High North is a vital region in the world and Norway is a critical partner to ensuring it remains open and free,” said Gilday. “Alongside our Norwegian partners, we are operating toward the same end – continued security and stability that result in prosperity for all – both now and in the future.”

Gilday also highlighted the importance of Norway’s contributions to U.S. and NATO-led coalition operations and thanked them for being a steadfast maritime partner.

The two navies frequently operate and exercise together in key engagements like BALTOPS, the annual joint, multinational maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic region, and TRIDENT JUNCTURE, a NATO-led military exercise held in Norway designed to test interoperability of alliance and partner forces.

Recently, representatives from the U.S., Norway, and other countries worked together at the Naval War College-led Newport Arctic Scholars Initiative where they discussed security cooperation in the Arctic.

This office call marks the first formal meeting between the two heads of navy.

Forbes: Who Are The 100 Most Sustainable Companies Of 2020?

A ranking of the organizations doing the most to embrace sustainable business practices was revealed Tuesday at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Compiled by Canadian research firm Corporate Knights since 2005, the Global 100 list ranks corporations with revenue in excess of $1 billion based on key metrics of sustainability, among them carbon footprint and gender diversity.

Topping this year’s list is Denmark-based renewable energy provider Ørsted. The first electricity company to earn the distinction of No. 1 climbed 69 spots since 2018 thanks, in part, to the way in which it has reinvented its business model over the past decade. “They completely revamped their core business from being a pretty coal-intensive utility to being almost a pure-play renewable power provider,” says Toby Heaps, cofounder and CEO of Corporate Knights.

CNET: ElectionGuard – Microsoft’s Most Important Product in 2020?

ElectionGuard isn’t designed to make voting machines safe from hackers. It’s meant to make hacking them pointless.

Building 83 doesn’t stand out on Microsoft’s massive Redmond, Washington, headquarters. But last week, the nameless structure hosted what might be the software giant’s most important product of 2020.

Tucked away in the corner of a meeting room, a sign reading “ElectionGuard” identifies a touchscreen that asks people to cast their votes. An Xbox adaptive controller is connected to it, as are an all-white printer and a white ballot box for paper votes. If you didn’t look carefully, you might have mistaken all that for an array of office supplies.

ElectionGuard is open-source voting-machine software that Microsoft announced in May 2019. In Microsoft’s demo, voters make their choices by touchscreen before printing out two copies. A voter is supposed to double-check one copy before placing it into a ballot box to be counted by election workers. The other is a backup record with a QR code the voter can use to check that the vote was counted after polls close.

About Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer ranks as the sixth most common cancer worldwide with 1 650 000 prevalent cases (5-year prevalence rate), 550 000 new cases and almost 200 000 deaths annually in 2018.1

Approx. 75% of all bladder cancer cases occur in men.1 It has a high recurrence rate with an average of 61% in year one and 78% over five years.2 Bladder cancer has the highest lifetime treatment costs per patient of all cancers.3

Bladder cancer is a costly, potentially progressive disease for which patients have to undergo multiple cystoscopies due to the high risk of recurrence. There is an urgent need to improve both the diagnosis and the management of bladder cancer for the benefit of patients and healthcare systems alike.

Bladder cancer is classified into two types, non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), depending on the depth of invasion in the bladder wall. NMIBC remains in the inner layer of cells lining the bladder. These cancers are the most common (75%) of all BC cases and include the subtypes Ta, carcinoma in situ (CIS) and T1 lesions. In MIBC the cancer has grown into deeper layers of the bladder wall. These cancers, including subtypes T2, T3 and T4, are more likely to spread and are harder to treat.4
