Long-time AmCham member and friend, Jan Søderstrøm, received Carnegies ‘hero medal’ at the US Ambassador’s Villa Otium on Wednesday afternoon.

Søderstrøm was awarded the medal for his efforts during Easter in 2014, when he most likely saved the life of a neighbor who was being brutally attacked.

Carnegie’s Hero Fund in Norway was established in 1911. The fund aims to reward heroic efforts in Norway, where the rescuer, voluntarily and with risk for his own life, save others.

“It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice,” Søderstrøm said in his speech after he received the medal from US Ambassador to Norway, Samuel D. Heins.

Søderstrøm, who helped found AmCham’s annual “Søderstrøm Cup” golf tournament, is a long-time member of AmCham Norway.
